“Our Youth have done an incredible job at preaching every night. The Spirit has been present and hearts have been transformed. We will certainly use them in future preaching back in our churches in the US” – Pr. Ortiz

“Our team of 27 has been busy tiling the church’s platform, painting both the church and the orphanage’s playground, ministering to abused, neglected and abandoned children, conducting a Flag Camp, teaching with the Puppet Show, conducting an evangelistic crusade in the evening and more. It has been a Marathon… that’s what we came for” — Pr. Ortiz

“Flag camp consists of 4 stations: Bible story, Puppets, Crafts and Games. Children rotate to visit each one of the stations and learn a practical lesson in each.”

“During the week, three of our own participants decided to give their lives to Jesus through baptism. What else can we ask for?” – Pr. Ortiz

“The Macedonia church in Kingston was packed to capacity with more than 500 persons, out of which approximately 200 were children or youth. Yet, the reverence was astounding! Children were in their places with their parents paying intense attention to God’s word.” – Pr. Ortiz

“The reverence by the children at church was something I had never seen before” – Linda Morrow

“Thank you for coming to Maxfield Park Home and teaching us so many things. Please come back” –Child at the Orphanage at the closing ceremonies.

“Your thoughtfulness and kindness in coming to Jamaica will never be forgotten. You gave so much of yourselves with an unselfish spirit.” —Mrs Karen, Church Elder, Macedonia Church.

“It has been a privilege to have you here and work together, our church has been revitalized and will never be the same thanks to you all.” –Pr. Allen, Macedonia Church senior pastor, Kingston.

May 28, 2008

Greetings from Jamaica!

We praise the Lord for traveling mercies and a great time here in Jamaica.

Right after our arrival, we took a chartered bus to the capital, Kingston where we have been ministering. It has been a safe and productive time as we interact to young and old alike. Jamaica is a place of contrasts: Beauty and exotic places on one side, but poverty and children in need on another. I was just talking to a 12 year-old girl whose mother died and her father can’t take care of her. The pain in her heart was noticeable. She is hoping that an aunt will adopt her. Another child, when told that we wanted to teach him how to pray, he said that it was impossible to talk to God. As you see, the needs are great and the opportunities are immense.

Our group has been busy installing tile at the church, painting at the orphanage and involved in evangelism at night. They are hard workers and… a great bunch!

Kate-Lyn Edwards preached last night and Anna Cummings today. I need to tell you that I saw missionaries in the making… or, I should say: ”Already missionaries with even greater potential!” The Holy Spirit took a hold of them and at one moment when Kate-Lyn was preaching with so much strength and conviction that she had all the church saying big “Amens!!” These girls need to preach back in Indiana!! Tomorrow is Hanna and Kate-Lyn Moenkhaus’ turn, and we are sure that the Spirit will move again.

So, in general we are well, everybody is safe and sound and enjoying the missionary experience. Please keep us in your prayers.

By God’s grace, we are due to arrive next Wednesday evening. Please know that we miss you and pray for you daily.

May God continue blessing each one of you.

Pr. Ortiz

Hey ya’ll I miss you all so much but I would not trade being here for the world. The people in Jamaica are so nice and kind and they are very fun. The children are so easy to love, Mom we may have another member of the family by the time I get home!!!!!!! I am having a blast and have a lot of new friends that I will never forget!!!!! Thanks to those who helped me come I am so happy to be here, life will never be the same now that the people (especially the children) have entered into my life, God has blessed Jamaica with wonderful loving and amazing people who when you meet them you can never ever forget them!!! I hope I can be as big a blessing to them as they have been to me!!!! I love you all and hope to see you soon!!!! God bless!!!!!
